Now that the Iowa State coaching circus is over….well as over as it is ever going to be, we turn our attention to the Hawks in this post. We’re just 5 days from the Outback Bowl in sunny, warm and not icy Tampa, Florida.
We’ve had time to look at the teams’ strengths and weaknesses. Now [...]

What would you do with $180 million?
December 23, 2008

ESPN is reporting the New York Yankees and free agent stud Mark Teixeira to an 8-year contract worth $180 million. That averages out to about $22.5 million per year. So, what would you do with $180 million dollars? Heck, or even one payment of $22..5 million? Leave me your thoughts here.
P.S. The Yankees have spent [...]

ISU Chooses Rhoads
December 20, 2008

KCCI confirmed Saturday that Auburn Defensive Coordinator Paul Rhoads will be the new head coach at Iowa State.   He has an impressive resume, with coaching stops at Auburn, Pitt, and Iowa State previously.  He is also an Ankeny native, so this is a double homecoming of sorts.
What are your thoughts?  Are you stoked Cyclone fans?  [...]

Is it Stoops after all??
December 20, 2008

The Phoenix radio station, KTAR, is reporting that Iowa State is expected to ask permission to talk with Arizona Head Coach Mike Stoops after the Las Vegas Bowl on Saturday.
Iowa State will reportedly offer him a 5 year contract worth $1.3 million per year.
What do you think? Right move? Just another report among the other [...]

Lay of the Land
December 19, 2008

With no real news today, it seems like a good time to take a good look at the lay of the land when it comes to the Iowa State coaching search.  Here’s who we think the candidates are, how their status has changed over the past seven days, and my best guess at the chances [...]

ISU Coaching Search Update
December 19, 2008

Here’s the latest info I have heard while working the phones in the sports office…
On Mike Stoops:
–The Arizona coach tells Arizona media members “No comment” — with a chuckle — when asked about the Iowa State opening.  He has no contract past Saturday night’s game at the Las Vegas Bowl, and may just be using [...]

Will A Stoops Return To Iowa?
December 18, 2008

The Mouth of the Midwest, Marty Tirrell, has sources that tell him ISU is in the final stages of negotiating a contract with Mike Stoops to be the new head coach of the Cyclones. You can see his post on his blog at http://www.62andeven.com.
I have to wonder about this hire.  Not that it’s a bad [...]

Who Will It Be?
December 17, 2008

One coach is out – Turner Gill.  There are (more than) a handful of names have replaced Gill in the speculation to be the next head coach.  So far, we have complete silence from Ames.
That won’t stop us from chatting about the candidates.  Here are some of the many names that are out there:
Troy Calhoun, [...]

ISU In Trouble?
December 17, 2008

Earlier, Turner Gill told Iowa State he is not interested in becoming the Cyclones next head coach. Is this a sign of bad news for Clones fans? Gill’s the head coach at Buffalo University, the doormat for FBS coaches (until Gill took them to a MAC Championship this year). I’m serious, Buffalo was as [...]
