KCCI Sports has confirmed Gene Chizik will be the new head coach at Auburn University. The Tigers hired a coach that was 5-19 as Iowa State’s head coach. So I ask YOU…Do you think Auburn is crazy for hiring Gene Chizik?
Who do you think Iowa State will hire as its next coach? Leave us your thoughts here.
-John Meyer
Thank goodness he’s leaving. If only he would take Pollard with him.
I am an Auburn alum in the Iowa Area and, yes, the Auburn athletic department and their Svengali (Bobby Lowder) are crazy. This is a bizarre and stupid move. I’m putting my fan loyalty on EBay. This is a great opportunity for ISU.
This is so ironic. This is the same man who coined Phillip Bates a “quitter.” I guess those comment “rumors” at Oklahoma had some truth to them, huh? As for Auburn, all I can ask is “Why?” He’s a D+ coach at best. Good luck to them…they are going to need it. I wonder how angry their fans are at the thought of a 5-19 coach taking over for a coach who had five wins last season alone. This one will take some selling, I’m sure.
Hope he is more loyal down there. Not betting on it, though.
Auburn respects Chizik for helping them go undefeated and helping their defense give up a national low of 11.3 points a game in that season. Chizik, when hired by Iowa State, was one of the top hot young coaches in the nation, and yes he went 5-19 with ISU, but as a Cyclone fan I saw a TON of progress being made (especially with the talented young players he recruited). I don’t think Auburn is crazy, I think it’s a risk, no doubt about it, but it could work out for them and I hope Gene the best. Also, as an Iowa State fan, I understand Chizik’s decision, Auburn is a better job than Iowa State at the moment, plus he knows a lot of people there. No hard feelings towards Chizik and I hope him the best. I believe that Iowa State will go after UNI’s Mark Farley, I feel that may be the best they can get right now, although I would like to see a name like Turner Gill show up, I just don’t think that’s possible at this moment. I’d say Farley is the leading candidate.
Yes, they are crazy for this hire. He is a good DC maybe not good HC. AD Jay Jacobs should not have fire Coach Tubs. He is not to smart.
P.S. Auburn U is in Alabama
I think Auburn got a Great Coach in hiring Gene Chizik. I am sad that Iowa State will loose him. Coach Gene Chizik, Will be one of the Great Coaches in NCAA Football. I wish him well and enjoyed his rebuilding of Iowa State Football. I do not think leaving ISU for Auburn should be a mark against him. I feel that Gene is going to a great football traditional school, he is well known at Auburn. I hope this does not hurt recruiting for Iowa State.
What is wrong with Iowa State football? First, we get rid of a coach that is well liked, and seemed to have the team on the right track, then we move on to this guy(Chizik) and the program is sold to the fans as the savor for ISU football. The guy comes in to Ames, does NOTHING GOOD FOR ISU FOOTBALL, wins one, count them ONE meaningful game and then packs up and heads out of town for a much better football program! This is merely a case of Mr. Pollard thinking that he knows whats best for ISU football, picking his guy, and making the hire. Well you idiot, now who are you going to hire? Thanks alot to Pollard and Chizik for putting the ISU football program lower than it was before either one of you idiots arrived on campus!
Auburn is crazy for hiring Gene Chizik, but firing Tommy Tuberville was idiotic. Tuberville posted a 5-2 record against TOP 5 teams and had 1 down year in the SEC. I’m pretty sure Iowa State fans would be happy if they went 5-7 next year. In my opinion, Chizik is one of those coaches that is not made to be a head coach. He is an outstanding defensive coordinator, but no more. He will have some success at Auburn with better talent, but will struggle even more to put together an offense that can succeed in the SEC. The interesting thing with Chizik is that Iowa State’s offense performed better than their defense this year. That does not make sense to me. Iowa State fans should be disappointed to see Chizik leave, but if they can hire Turner Gill, I guarantee you they will compete in the Big 12 North under Gill in the future. He completely turned Buffalo around, the laughing stock of Division I teams into a MAC champion. It is remarkable what he did, sending Buffalo to their 2nd bowl game in the program’s history. If he can turn Buffalo around, he will be able to turn Iowa State’s program around and give Cyclone fans SOMETHING to cheer about.
I am semi shocked at this news…..but at the same time should’ve seen it coming. First off, Gene….I wish you the worst of luck throughout the rest of your career, I will be a diehard fan of every team that faces you. Congrats on gaining that from me. Second, he hasn’t proven anything in the time he was here at ISU, so Auburn…..why? I know he was an assistant there….but weren’t his past two seasons any influence on the decision. Chizik must’ve spewed a line of crap a mile long for Auburn to make this hire. I would bet almost anything that he threw Iowa State under the bus continuously during the interview. If this is how he responds to a difficult start, I truly am happy to see the weakness he brought to the table gone.
I think they are crazy. Tubberville was one of the best coaches in the nation. Pollard has to feel like a fool.
Get rid of Pollard and bring back Mac!
Hire Tommy Tubberville
I think Gene hasn’t been happy in Ames since he stepped off the plane back in 2006. We need a coach who wants to be a Cyclone, rather than a “big name” defensive coordinator who will only use Iowa State as a stepping stone.
Remember Coach Chizik, a 5-7 record wasn’t good enough for the mighty Auburn Nation. So good luck Gene, I’m sure the fans at Auburn will be more patient than we’ve been….
Crazy as hell. I will give Chizik repeative beat downs.
I continue to be disgusted by Pollard and his decisions. They put McCarney out and hired Chizik. Chizik recruited his own players for the upcoming season and now abandons ship? When will Pollard figure it out? Hire someone who can coach and gives a darn about the team and is loyal.
Turner Gill from Buffalo could bring his Big 12 experience, midwest ability to recruit and possibly help in keeping some offensive players from leaving due to his offensive background and success.
Not sure that you guys actually got it confirmed first. I saw it on Rivals.com and ABC5’s website first.
But to answer your question, no, Auburn isn’t crazy. If he was offered this job straight out of Texas, it wouldn’t be a problem at all. Give him good players I think he’ll be a good head coach.
Pollard knew yesterday when he made the statement. Sorry for Keeler that he felt snubbed for interview, but tradition lets the “announcing” school that courtesy. 2-10 doesn’t usually get you a SEC job. Maybe they saw something too!
New coach? Either you go really big, and I mean really big, or you just hire another Iowa guy that you can afford and hope to sell a few tickets. Sucks either way
Not a good hire, in my opinion, but in comparison, a much better hire than the person on this page http://www.kcci.com/news/18271868/detail.html?rss=des&psp=news that said Auburn is in Georgia. Research is only a mouse click away. Auburn University is in Auburn, Alabama.
I’d be skeptical of a two-year head coach who has 5 career wins
Obviously Chizik did not want to be in Ames! Chizik called Phillip Bates a quitter for leaving, now the tables are turned, what does Chizik think of himself? But before Chizik left he fired coaches and now he pulls this crap. His loyalty to Ames and Iowa State is not what he stated it was! Cyclones fans deserve a coach who will have a passion for results and put forth the effort and drive to create a successful program. Let Chizik go, SEE YA! Don’t let the door hit you on the back side. I hope that Pollard is hiding right now and praying he can find the right coach. BRING BACK MAC!
Iowa state just took 2 steps back with their football program. Pollard should be next to go IMHO.
This is very unfortunate for the Iowa State program, but unfortunatly he is leaving for green pastures. He’s going to a place he is familiar with and lets face it, much easier to recruite to. Maybe this is for the better, in my opinion Chizik just didn’t seem to very happy here. Coaching now days is a business, and their is no loyalty what so ever (sad, very sad). All I can say is good luck in a very tough SEC conference.
He is a QUITTER! Let him go… he obviously wasn’t capable of the task at hand. ISU can find another good coach who can win at ISU. I think he owes Phillip Bates an apology for calling him a “quitter” and calling him out for not talking to him directly. Apparently, Chizik wants to tell his players/coaches via video conference sometime Sunday. Now that is some good ole southern SEC class.
Being a senior at Iowa State, I think I have already seen to many coaches come and go. Dan McCarney had a couple of bad seasons but was still the winningest coach at ISU. Gene Chizik came and said that he had done all he could and that is was up to the team? I don’t think so. I’m glad he’s going, can we get rid of Jamie Pollard too? Then we can build a better program.
As a life long Crimson Tide fan, I am so sorry that I.S.U. lost such a fabulous coach. I am so happy that he is going to Awbarn who had a terrible 5 and 7 year this year.
I really hope that you find a GOOD coach. And, speaking for a whole lot of Alabama fans, may I say “THANK YOU!”
I think we should take a strong look at Turner Gill.
It is now or never for “I State” management to show some business acumen. After all, college football is a business and Jamie Pollard has shown a complete inability to run it. It was in the beginning that Chizek has lived off of the recruits and players that were at Auburn and Texas on his arrival. He only developed his resume at the expense of supporters blinded by winning records. Never took the time to develop a player or a team. A true phony. “I State” management should run Chizik out of town tonight. Followed closely by his “player development” chaplain/ friend. And the truck packed, and then followed out of town by Pollard. Good riddence to all.
Can we get him to take Jamie Pollard too?
Auburn is taking a chance on Chizik as did Iowa State. It doesn’t look like that chance paid off for Iowa State but can you really tell in 2 years? I was certainly very disappointed with the results so far but was willing to give Chizik a little more time. Apparently he doesn’t have that time to give.
If I had a “dream job” offered to me I’d certainly have to consider it but this is very disappointing for ISU Fans.
Lets see if Pollard can pull a rabbit out of a hat this time?
I can’t express how disgusted I am with this man. What a lack of character. Apparently he is so arrogant that he thinks the Iowa State job is beneath him, and even though he was being paid big bucks, he didn’t have the balls to stick around long enough to see if his “genius” could turn the program around. I really feel badly for the players and everyone who respected and believed in him. I hope that Pollard can find someone worthy of the support given by the loyal ISU fans. To answer your question, YES, Auburn is crazy!
ISU needs to bring in Steve Mariucci.
yes
Auburn is definitely crazy for hiring Chizik but it is great news for Iowa State. With a record like his and from what I have seen he is not the coach for Iowa State. They should choose more carefully for the next coach. They can do much better than Chizik.
Here’s a question –
Could ISU sue Chizik for breach of contract? I mean, he signed a contract saying he would coach at ISU for X number of years, and I’m betting it was more than 2, and now he leaves, breaking said contract.
Auburn might be crazy but for Chizek, what a smart move.
If he had another season next year like this year, he would probably be looking for another job, so why not leave when a school wants him. Not only is it a smart move but it is also a good move for the Cyclones. Perhaps this time around, a winning coach can be found. Two year turn around is possible, just look at our neighbor to the West.
Frank
Gene Chizek lacks intregity and honesty. Just a couple of weeks ago he spouts his commitment to Iowa State and then turns around and leaves. We do not need a man of his questionable values and lack of character to be coaching our young men. What sort of leader who is a role model demostrates these characteristics?
With his losing record at Iowa State, we are well rid of him.
I think Auburn is crazy for hiring Chezik. Positve and better for Iowa State though that he is leaving.
crazy!! they mush be idiots!!
Good for you Chizik! Usually ISU is a dead end coaching job that ruins a coaches career and chances of ever coaching at a high level again! I think he will be able to finally recruit top athletes that will work in his system. I’m sorry State fans but you should seriously consider withdrawing from the Big 12 it’s embarrassing! Try the MAC, that might even be too much for you, perhaps NCAA-II is better suited for IS-P-U!
Two for starters:
* Mark Farley: We stole one UNI coach, why not one who is a regular in the championship — and is from Iowa?
* Tommy Tuberville: Let’s trade head coaches and call it even. One with winning head-coaching record, and one … well, not.
Pollard needs to hire not only a coach with head-coaching experience, but one that has had a successful record as a head coach of a Div 1 school. We need someone that has proven that they know how to turn a program around. We don’t need another “Gene Chizik”, that’s for certain. After two pathetic years as head coach of ISU, leaving is the best thing Chizik has done for the program.
Go after Turner Gill!!!!!!
Let’s face it, not even Jesus can sanctify ISU. The program is eternally damned to mediocrity. Among the 12 apostles of the conference, ISU is the Judas and just keeps hanging itself year after year.
Hire someone local that has ties to ISU. Perhaps even someone with extensive coaching experience. Hire Steve Loney
WOW!!! Chizik’s a hypocrite . . . calls a player a ‘quitter’ then quits himself. Why would anyone want an ex-Cornhusker as ISU coach? If Nebraska ever needs another FB coach do you think he would stay at ISU. I doubt it. Gill should never be considered. ISU needs to do two things . . . get rid of Pollard and either hire Mac back (if possible) or hire someone who is strongly a Midwest kind of family man with a good football mind. Geez, I’m a Hawk fan but even I feel jilted somewhat. I can’t imagine how bad Cyclone fans feel. This is sad. ISU deserves much better than it got from Chizik. I hope he can live with himself now that he obviously doesn’t ‘love’ ISU and Ames anymore. What a jerk.
I am so sick of hearing everyone say to bring back Mac. Mac was a good coach, but he was not a great coach. He had some wins at ISU, and the wins he had were ok for Ames, because lets face it, we are ISU. Pollard needs to make a smart move with this opportunity, and that smart move would be to hire a guy like Turner Gill. Anyone who thinks Mark Farely is the answer needs to have their head examined. ISU can do better than that.
Chris Peterson of BSU for ISU coach
WOW. Gene Chizek dont let the door hit you in the butt when you walk out the door. I really think the he is a good coach but what a lack of morals. One week your saying you love ISU and the next you fire some coaches then you pull this stunt?? WOW. ISU should go after Farley, Gill, or anybody else they think is good. Anybody that can get us more the 5 wins in 2 seasons. I hope you have a horible year at Auburn.
I for one am thrilled! We at Auburn were looking for a coach with a total lack of character as well as a poor coaching record. I mean, he had a 19-5 record in the Big 12 in only 2 seasons! What? Oh crap…
Chris Peterson from BSU is the frontrunner
Why do you keep deleting my stuff?
i guess I’m glad to see him go, though I’m not sure what Auburn sees in him. This should have been a pretty good year for ISU, and they won exactly two more games than a team with no legs would have won.
gene who?
Coming from Texas and Auburn originally, you could tell Chizik probably wasn’t gonna last long. Now he’s off to Auburn. People talk about how ISU is ‘impossible’ to win at as a coach. I say think again. Which is why we should SERIOUSLY consider Turner Gill. In Buffalo of all places, he takes an absolute laughing stock and reverses them into MAC champions with a bowl berth included. Pollard, THINK ABOUT TURNER GILL
I think Auburn is crazy for this hire, but not stupid. They got the man they wanted. Maybe he will stay more than two years and not leave the program hanging. ISU needs a coach with Iowa State or state of Iowa ties who will eat, breathe and live Cyclone football. Anyone who thinks ISU is a dead end coaching job is wrong. ISU has had spurts of success, but they need someone to build a traditon of success. I remember when IOWA was once always the doormat of the Big Ten unitl Hayden Fry arrived.
Good riddance! Please take Pollard with you and the maroon uniforms and I State (is that Illinois, Idaho, or Iowa???). I never heard Chizik say one positive thing and I never saw him smile. In his two miserable seasons he drove more long time fans away than drew new ones in. Increase in season tickets sales? Could that be due to the fact we were held hostage to be able to attend the ISU vs IA game? It’s a great day at ISU. Go Cyclones!
I feel like the guy who wined and dined his date, took her to the big dance, was kissed on the cheek, only to see her leave with another guy. Oh! How can I trust ever again!?!
Chizik was not the right coach to get in the first place, even though he was the best canidate of them all. I’m GLAD he is leaving and I hope we can get a coach that can do something besides call players quiters and saying he is loyal to the university. Auburn is SCREWED!!! Just like we were.
I’m not surprised that Chizik is leaving for Auburn–I’m glad that Chizik is leaving. He was not a classy guy, he is a low-life gutter scum sucker. He called Bates a quitter–look who is also the “quitter”. States he and his family love living in Ames. Well he is leaving-so much for “loving Ames”. I just hope that Pollard leaves soon too.
Wow, can you imagine a fan base closer to the edge than the cyclone gang? Chizik pretty much drove the ISU program (let’s say a beat up old Ford Escort) straight into a tree, staggered out from behind the wheel, burped, hiccupped, and jumped into a brand program at Auburn (a nice new red vette). This might go down as one of the biggest windfalls of all time.
Here is an idea. Let Pollard and Chizik go! Bring MAC back and put him in Pollards position.
pollard sucks…chizik sucks.
ISU athletics have extremely sucked the last several years.
Please leave pollard…give us back our Iowa State, CARDINAL and GOLD, and commitment to actually winning over marketing a team.
PS…Iowa State men’s basketball hasn’t been too great either as Coach McD has yet to produce a winning record just like chizik. All in all…ISU athletics is in AWEFUL shape and I am hopeful a new football coach can get me interested in ISU again. Odds are…we will hire someone dumb…change our colors to Crimson and Indigo…and lose many a football games.
long time state fan doubting his allegiance
Nothing good has happened since Pollard has been in charge! Get rid of him, make Mac the AD . He’ll know who would be great for the football team!!!!
Lets get Ditka!!!
With the country going to hell in a hand basket I fail to understand how this rates as news.
I tell you who’s crazy in all this…. ISU fans. Mad at a guy for moving up. You’re all hypocrites! Everyone of you would jump at the chance in your own jobs to move up. It’s like he’s going from Wal-mart to Younkers. Big step up for the guy, good for him. Besides ISU needs to leave the Big 12 and go down to Div II football. I don’t know if they could even compete in the CIML! Bottom line State stinks!
Read more at my blog.
After the smokescreen cleared that Pollard laid out for Chizik when he hired him, Chizik realized just what he had gotten into. I predict Auburn will go on to be a national powerhouse, and I feel sorry for the next poor sap Iowa State convinces to take over. Good luck to him. He’ll need it.
Turner Gill would be an awesome choice! He was under The great Tom Osborn for years. He understands first hand how to compete in the big 12. and lets face it he knows how to win in Jack Trice stadium!
HEY CHIZIK, You are the cowboy, and POLLARD, You are the horse, Now gene take your horse and ride out or town. see ya!!!!
Seriously, has anyone made a phone call to Florida yet? This just set back ISU another 5 years, maybe tickets prices will go down…haha
It’s simple. GET RID OF POLLARD! He is the #1 problem and is ruining our programs! As well as jacking up our prices!!!
Oh, and BRING BACK MAC!!!
I am sorry he is leaving. It looked like he was starting to get some players. Let’s don’t get anymore coaches from UNI. The basketball coach we got from there isn’t working out very well. Try Turner Gill.
ISU has the players so it will not be the worst thing that has happened.
Auburn can have him. I thought this guy was suppose to be a defensive specialist. Last I checked we had one of the worst defenses in the nation. Gave up at least 28 points a game in conference play. Let’s face it, just because he had success in other positions doesn’t mean he’ll make a good head coach. We all new he would leave at some point, it would have been nice if he didn’t run our program into the ground before doing so. Bring back McCarney so we can start picking up the debris from the cyclone that was Gene Chizik!!
Find a coach for 80k and we will still 2-9 and the university will have these achievements to boast and more dollars to support them with.

Football is a game.
jamie who ?
It disgusts me a little bit, but at the same time, I’m really not sad to see Chizik go. I think what disgusts me most is having to look forward to another couple years of “rebuilding” and getting used to another coach and his system. Please Pollard…please pick someone who will give a crap about ISU and not just a stepping stone (which we all knew this would be for Chizik…just not this soon to step off). Get someone local (Farley) or at least someone not scared of cold weather and very subpar football traditions (Gill).
Someone please fire JAMIE POLLARD!! Thank god this state has the Hawkeyes!
Auburn is cRaZy! I’ve read all the talk/hype about how Auburn remembers when Chizik “saved the day” and helped the Tigers go undefeated, but what have you done for me lately Chizik? Auburn can have him. I have much more respect for Phillip Bates, now that our “beloved” coach has decided he too would quit on the school and community he claimed to have loved. As was previously mentioned, it’s just too dang bad the Jamie Pollard didn’t get the chance to go with him.
This might be as good of opportunity as any to Bring Back Mac! There was a true coach who was loyal to Iowa State University and to the community of Ames. When he said he LOVED Ames, he meant it. Dan McCarney brought integrity to the ISU Football Program and rebuilt it the right way (just remember what ISU football was like BEFORE Mac!!). Sure, he hit a few years on the down swing after having some bowl success, but this is Iowa State University not the University of Oklahoma. ISU will have a tough battle having a truly successful football program when they play inside the Big 12. Look at the caliber of Big 12 teams year in and year out! McCarney was competitive. Didn’t always get the wins, but was competitive. Not that “looking good” should be something to hang your hat on, but under Mac, the kids looked like they were trying. Football isn’t as rich of a tradition, and quite frankly may never be at Iowa State under Pollard’s command. It’s going to take a lot more bowl games and coaches who don’t quit 2 years into “rebuilding” to make it a football rich school.
Thanks for the ugly colors and crappy “I-State” logo Chizik! I, for one, am happy to see you go…QUITTER! If K-State can bring back Bill Snyder, I say BRING BACK MAC!!
I can understand leaving Iowa State for Auburn, it has to be one of the Top-15 jobs in America. That said, how can their fan base not be going nuts over this hire? They ran a much more established coach out of town! The whole thing just makes ISU look bad. It makes Pollard look incompetent (justifiably) and leaves the program worse off then it was in 2006, or even 1996! As someone who thought Dan McCarney should’ve been retained, I can smile. But even I, as a Hawk fan, feel bad for the Clones today.
So is Auburn stupid? Immensely stupid. He’ll last 3 years, but hey, it’s a longer tenure than he spent at ISU.
I think they should give Tuberville back his job. Auburn’s “puppet” of an AD Jay Jacobs comes off like a simple minded moron. Its like they walked over to the Lamda Chi house and said “Which one of you boys wants to be Athletic Director?”
All fairness and team loyalty aside. Chizik fired offensive and defensive coaches, then used Iowa State’s money to search for future Auburn coaches, under the guise that he was trying to recruit Iowa state coaches. What a thief
How can anyone blame him for leaving? It is like choosing Red Lobster over Mickey D’s for a free meal. We need to rest realize that Iowa State is a Mickey D’s in a world of 5 star restraunts. Easy prediction, Iowa State meddles as a bad to below average program for the next 10 years minimum. Would you like fries with that?
People, People it is just a job. If you were not happy in your job, and the dream job comes before you, what would you do?
The same thing. More money, out of the cold, back where your family has established friends. I would have done the same.
Gene Chizik, you really lack any professional character, period. Sure, your dream job came a calling, but you certainly handled this with zero class – what actual positives did you produce for Iowa State? Auburn must be extremely desperate, good bye. Ok Jamie, you are on the offical watch list for the next plane out of town. Do you really think those suites and seats are going to sell themselves? Everyone thought your coaching hires were acts of genius, so far you have landed us a couple of real duds. Thanks for nothing.
Auburn is nuts and Chizik will never earn any respect with those ‘morals’ he is running with. It’s time to make real changes so we must start at the top! Pollard, your time has yielded us nothing other than higher ticket prices, fewer wins, and fans that have had it. I do respect the fund raising efforts but we need wins, come on. I am sick of mediocrity (at best) and this is definitely hitting rock bottom. We are in the BIG XII and need to start acting like it. Only way from here is up (after we clean the house).
Last I heard it was a free country, people have the right to change their minds and do what is best for their family. Just because his decision isn’t convenient for the rest of the world — the rest of the world needs to get over it. There is more to life that a football game. Maybe this is opportunistic for ISU — Instead of laying off people and not repairing buildings they can give the state back the $750K as part of the 2 million that is to be returned. The rest could come from some of the too big salaries being paid to VP’s and AD’s. Good luck to Mr. Chizik and his family and Good Luck to ISU to find a better fit.
I don’t blame Chizik at all for leaving for a better paying job…even if the situation is a bad as Auburn is right now.
Red Lobster vs McDonald’s.lol. that’s funny. I think I would just stay at home.
What are you ISU fans thinking? It’s a great move for Him because the ISU football program sucks! Stop wasting good money on a program that is a failure. Reduce tuition and finger the regents. Everyone wins, even the fans.
ISU fans have nothing to complain about, maybe if they would have filled every single home game and helped out there coach with recruiting, what do you fans think it sais to a recruit who comes to an ISU game with the stands half full. The fans are not committed to winning, if they were the stands would be full win or lose. look at nebraska, last 5 years -7 years not so good at all,but every home game sold out. It is hard enough to recruit to the state of iowa, but with fans like that it makes it impossible.
What a lovely job you have done Mr. Pollard. First you get rid of a coach who truly loved this program and did great things for it, then you hire Gene Chizik who comes in and changes the logos minus CY. Calls a player a quitter, not very classy. Say’s he regrets coming to ISU and then tell’s us he and his family are firmly planted here. Then 2 weeks later you up and leave. Did anyone ever see this man smile. And how much did this whole fiasco cost ($) Iowa State. Please Mr. Pollard find a new school to screw over – you will not be missed here!
Well, now ISU won’t have to fire Chizik after another terrible season.
Yes, Auburn is CRAZY! We jumped on the Pollard/Chizik bandwagon and bought football tix two years in a row now. The only game I can remember enjoying in two seasons was the ‘Clones win over the Hawks last year. I am all for supporting a program, but ISU needs to learn from this. Hire someone of some quality and don’t over hype him – anyone have that ultravaluable Chizik coin laying around?
I say good for Chizik! Pollard is just a sore loser (yes, LOSER!) and can never be happy for his coaches. He is the most negative AD I’ve ever heard and I wish he’d go back to Wisconsin. I wish Chizik the best at Auburn.
We can all moan and groan and it will not do us any good.
Why waste our breathes and mind for something we don’t have control over. If he is good like we think he is, good for him. If he is not, we can sit back and laugh about it with a nice cold brew. Gene has been knocked from goalpost to goalpost. We Cyclones know better than to do that. Let the War Eagles do that. Their talons are much more sharper than ours. I hope Gene does not mess up at Auburn because I would urinate on myself from laughing too hard. Gene is not God’s gift to football. Anyone that takes his spot won’t have a big shoe to fill. Let by gones be by gones.
Good riddens to bad rubbish. He obviously used ISU as a stepping stone to get where he wanted to go, and good for him. We didn’t have a chance to really see him work anyway so we’ll see what the future holds.
Well if Chizik does for Aurburn what he did to ISU we should be glad to be rid such an opportunistic coach. He has no loyalty to ISU it was just a quick stop on his coaching track. Pollard should be fired he let Dan McCarney go and this is the result lets start completely fresh. I hope that the next coach will stay longer than two years and win at least a few games. Shame on Pollard for hiring a Benedict Arnold like Chizik. It is hard to let bye gones be bye gones when Chizik showed such disrespect to ISU so good bye and good riddance.
Why is it such a big deal “sucks it-Chizik” left. He sucked as I-state’s head coach and he’ll continue to SUCK at Auburn. If anything, the Cyclones have lost about 180-200lbs. of DEAD WEIGHT!! If the Cyclones had made it to a bowl game this year and he pulled this stunt, then there would be a better reason for all this “hoopla”. LET IT GO! There’s more important things to worry about in the world.
It is about time this guy gets out. It was a disappointment to hire him and only set ISU back 2 years from starting over. Auburn can have him and I hope he fails there also.
Better without than with a liar!
Good riddance.
I DO hope his chaplain (errr LIFE coach) goes with him. We don’t need a baptist minister on the payroll at a state school.
Auburn is beyond nuts. Recruiting a coach who has no record of winning. Give him two years and Auburn will be looking for a new coach too.
Pollard is the whole problem. He fires the best football coach ISU ever had and also fires the basketball coach leading to more mediocrity. Not until Pollard goes will ISU be able to start rebuilding.
I think what Chizik did was a traitor move! I am very disappointed with him because of that! I wish we just had our old coach, and kept him instead of bringing new coaches all the time. Now it’s going to be so much harder for ISU Football to become better because of so many changes!
I hope we find a coach that will really be devoted and do his best at ISU, and not quit after one season… I am not sure who is a good candidate, even though the UNI coach has been talked about, I doubt he will leave UNI though!
Only a Hawk fan or non ISU fan would blame this on Pollard and want to get rid of him. And if they truly believe that Pollard is bad then they have more than one screw loose. Pollard has done more for the Athletic Department then the former AD Bruce V. Facilities are being built that would not have been under the former regime. Chizik was a great hire at the time and I would bet 95% of the people complaining now were happy when he was first hired. Same goes with McDermott. (who I believe still will be condidered a great hire and get the team going.) So again, anyone blaming Pollard on this one, does not know beans about the athletics or even the business aspects of it.
